What our data shows about Taco Bell

Taco Bell has eleven products in our price index and 595 items across nine markets, but the more telling number is how much of its American board never leaves home. The chalupas, gorditas and crunchwrap variants that define the US menu are largely absent elsewhere.

What travels is the simple stuff: the crunchy taco, the soft taco, cinnamon twists. Items with no unusual ingredient and no unusual process cross borders; items built around a specific proprietary format do not.

The brand's positioning also inverts abroad. In the United States it is an aggressive value player; in most international markets it sits closer to fast casual, partly because Mexican-inspired food is a novelty category rather than an everyday one.
