Auntie Anne's is the most widely distributed brand in our data relative to its size. It trades in all eleven legacy markets we price - A distinction it shares only with McDonald's, KFC, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Subway and Starbucks.
The reason is footprint. A pretzel counter needs a few square metres, no extraction, no fryer line and a menu of a dozen items, which makes it viable in mall concourses and transit halls where a restaurant could never fit. Low fixed cost per site is what makes a wide international estate affordable.
It also has eleven products in our price index, high for a brand this small. The Original Pretzel ranges from about $1.19 in Thailand to $6.42 in Ireland, and the caramel dip - A genuinely trivial product - From $0.47 in Malaysia to $2.03 in Canada.

Within a year, the business expanded to multiple locations, and by 1992, Auntie Anne's celebrated the opening of its 100th store.
