How Fast-Food Franchising Actually Works
Almost every restaurant you think of as a chain is owned by someone else entirely. What the franchisee actually buys, and why it explains the price on the board.

Menus and prices in 5 markets, 479 items tracked.
Sizzler is two companies. Since 2023 the chain outside the United States has been owned by Thailand's Minor International, entirely separately from the American business - So the Sizzler in Bangkok and the Sizzler in California share a name and very little else.
The UK board is the largest menu in our entire database at 225 items, which is the clearest illustration on this site of what separates casual dining from fast food. A kitchen cooking to order can carry a range that a batch-holding quick-service kitchen never could.
The all-you-can-eat salad bar is the element that travelled best. In Asia it is central to the brand's positioning rather than an accompaniment.

Sizzler began as a modest dream between friends who believed that good food has the power to bring people together. In the summer of 1978, the first location opened its doors in a cozy corner of town, offering grilled classics and warm hospitality. Long hours, hand-written menus, and the laughter of regulars filled those early days. A family recipe for house-made garlic bread became an unexpected favorite, and from there, Sizzler’s story took on a flavor all its own. Every milestone - From adding the first salad bar to serving the 10,000th guest - Was seasoned with the same passion that sparked it all.
At the heart of Sizzler’s kitchen lies a love for freshness, balance, and bold flavor. The chefs draw inspiration from timeless American comfort food, with a few global touches stirred in for good measure. Grilled-to-order steaks, juicy burgers, and the ever-popular Malibu Chicken are just a few of the signature dishes that keep guests coming back. Each plate reflects a commitment to ingredients that are responsibly sourced and handled with respect. The menu isn’t about trends - It’s about taste, simplicity, and that satisfying feeling of a meal done right.
More than just a place to eat, Sizzler has become a gathering space for families, friends, and familiar faces. Birthdays have been toasted here, little league victories celebrated, and quiet weeknights made memorable with a shared dessert. The establishment takes pride in knowing its guests by name and remembering their favorites. Local schools, charities, and farmers’ markets have all found a partner in Sizzler, where community isn’t a concept - It’s a daily practice. Whether it’s through a kind smile at the door or a thoughtful conversation at a table, Sizzler continues to serve more than meals - It serves connection.

Localisation is not adding a novelty item. It is a staged process with a predictable sequence, and the menu data shows exactly how far each market has travelled.

Menu boards are designed documents, not lists. Where the money items sit, what the ordering of panels is doing, and how to find the price you actually want.
Price reports are signed, reviewed by a person, and earn points when accepted - So they need an account. Signing in takes one tap and brings you straight back to the report.
